Origin story
Eight colours to infinity
I learned BASIC at seven on a 32K BBC Micro, where eight colours felt like a whole universe. Around the same time, a family friend studying computer science at Sussex explained neural networks to me. We joked that AI might replace programmers eventually, though surely not during my career.
That joke feels rather different now. I still work with architecture, requirements and judgement, while generative systems can produce more of the lower-level code. Singin’ the AI blues came from watching that distant idea arrive inside my own working life.
