On Top Of The World
Yeah… Brighton town
From dead air to live wires
On top of the world, yeah we're standing so high
Brighton lights flicker under night sky
Heartbeat racing, living that thrill
One step ahead but we're climbing still
On top of the world, where the skyline glows
I'd been out in Suffolk where the signal just dies
Middle of nowhere, just fields and quiet skies
No stations worth hearin', just static and pain
No underground rhythm, no bass in the brain
But I always had a habit, yeah I never let it go
Spin the FM dial anywhere I roll
'Cause you never know the gems that are hid in the air
Broadcasting fire from some tower somewhere
So I'm back in Brighton, in my Fiesta ride
12-inch sub thumpin', got the bass turned high
Scrolling through the dial like I always do
Then I hit 88.2 — signal came through
Strong and clear, yeah it cut through clean
Not no corporate playlist, this was raw and unseen
Listened five minutes, I already knew
"That's a pirate station… yeah, that's the crew"
At first they were cautious, thought I'm feds in disguise
Every answer measured, every message they'd size
Back-and-forth chat till they gave me a place
Prince Albert pub, we'd meet face to face
Walked in nervous, scanning side to side
Didn't know who I'm looking for inside
Then I clock this guy by the window frame
White dude, long dreads, juggling calls like a game
We sat for hours, swapping stories deep
Close calls, late nights, secrets we keep
Felt like hackers back in the day
Aliases only, coded way
Same mentality, same design
Bend the rules but don't cross the line
Tech and risk in a perfect blend
By the end I said, "yeah—we're friends"
Then I saw the rigs—mad things to behold
Half looked pro, half barely controlled
Wires and glue like a fever dream scene
Somewhere between genius and obscene
One story stuck—still makes me grin
Spider crawled where the circuits spin
Fried itself, shifted frequency band
Ended up clashing with aircraft land
Gatwick called like "shut it down fast"
You're interfering with planes that pass"
They killed the signal, stayed low-key smart
No comeback drama, just played their part
I couldn't fix rigs, not back then
But I had a car, so I rolled with them
Late night missions to tower block heights
They hit the roof, I watched for blue lights
Learned the system—height is king
Line-of-sight means everything
Rigs get hidden where no one sees
Locked in shafts behind steel plates deep
Rig rod tool when you need it back
Fishing it out before they react
And it ain't just feds you defend against
Other pirates might rob your set
On top of the world, yeah we're standing so high
Brighton lights flicker under night sky
Heartbeat racing, living that thrill
One step ahead but we're climbing still
On top of the world, where the skyline glows
Secret view that nobody knows
Fear and freedom in every breath
We're dancing on the edge of arrest
Now I see my town in a different way
Every rooftop mapped when I walk each day
Where's the height, where's the clean line clear
Where could an antenna disappear
Same old streets but a different view
From ground level up to the skyline view
We weren't just playing tunes in the night
We were taking the airwaves, claiming that right
On top of the world, yeah we're touching the sky
City below as the signals fly
Risk in our veins but we feel alive
Broadcasting dreams on pirate drive
88.2
