Hit Piece

“Dangerous…”
“Disgraced…”
“Misinformation…”
“Far-right…”
Yeah—
Tell me who I’m meant to hate tonight.

Black ink, red lights, six o’clock decree,
“This is what the decent people think—so just agree.”
Opinion dressed as settled fact,
One wrong word and they launch the attack.
Three-minute trial and a five-second clip,
Cut out the context, let the meaning slip.
Build up a monster, repeat it again,
Till millions pass judgement on a face and a name.

But the tower lost control of the sound,
Now the whole conversation’s going round.
Two hours, three hours—follow every thread,
No anchor cutting off what somebody said.

Hit piece, hit piece—watch it backfire,
Every dirty headline only feeds the fire.
You say, “Don’t listen”—so we listen to the end:
The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
Hit piece, hit piece—your spell is wearing thin,
The more you shut them out, the more we tune them in.
Your blacklist tells us where to begin:
The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Whoa-oh—hear it from the source,
Whoa-oh—let me make my choice.
Whoa-oh—you can’t control the trend—
The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Back in lockdown, every screen flashed red,
“Rogan’s spreading danger”—every headline said.
“Menace to the public,” “misinformation show”—
I’d barely heard the podcast, so I thought I’d better know.
Three hours with a scientist, room enough to breathe,
Time to test an argument, question and retrieve.
Strange ideas, wild ideas—put them to the test,
Let the facts decide which theories stand up best.
No shouting studio panel racing to the ads,
No loaded little question built to make somebody look mad.
Better conversation than the news had time to plan,
The patience of a proper interview—like Paxman.

So the tower lost control of the sound,
And the forbidden conversation travelled round.
No cropped quotation, no selective end—
I heard the whole discussion and decided for myself instead.

Then Tommy Robinson—a name they taught me to fear:
“Racist,” “fascist,” “public enemy of the year.”
For years I knew the labels but had never heard the man,
Just the same recycled picture and the same condemning brand.
So I watched him speaking with the time to tell his side,
Expecting hate and prejudice—the monster they described.
Instead, I heard a working-class fighter standing firm,
Speaking about forgotten girls when others changed the terms.
Pakistani-heritage grooming gangs in certain towns,
Victims failed by institutions meant to shut the criminals down.
Hard questions about culture pushed away through fear—
Then inquiries and audits made the failures crystal clear.
That doesn’t make him flawless; it doesn’t make each claim right,
But a label isn’t evidence, and silence isn’t light.
You don’t defeat an argument by banning who can speak—
You only make the curious go searching every week.

You told us who was evil.
You told us who was good.
You told us what was hateful
Before we understood.
Now every condemnation
Sends another viewer through—
Your character assassination
Is an advert they can’t refuse.

If you hate him—let me hear him.
If you ban him—let me see.
If the truth is really with you,
Why are you afraid of me?

Hit piece, hit piece—watch it backfire,
Every dirty headline only feeds the fire.
You say, “Don’t listen”—so we listen to the end:
The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Hit piece, hit piece—the tide is rolling in,
You lost the public’s confidence; you’re never getting it back with spin.
You say, “Don’t trust him”—but we won’t just pretend:
The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Hit piece, hit piece—you created the trend,
Every name you tried to bury found an audience instead.
You declared another war—but the narrative won’t bend:
The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Hit piece!
We press play!
Hit piece!
We hear what they say!
Hit piece!
Your monopoly ends!
The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
